MBA - Finance

The aim of the MBA Finance programme is to develop a broad but critical understanding of the major areas of finance and enable the student to apply this theoretical understanding to the practical management of the financial affairs of a business, both domestically and internationally.

Term 3

Financial Risk Strategy:

The module will focus on the application of various financial tools and techniques, such as futures and options, used to man-age financial risks within an organisation. Hence students will cover all the main treasure tools, learn how to apply and evaluate them and devise strategies for dealing with risk.

Corporate Financial Management:

This module aims to provide students with a critical understanding of the strategic relationship and interaction between a firm’s investment, financing and dividend policy decisions within the context of Shareholder Value Analysis. It also considers the agency problems that can arise in these key corporate financial decisions of the firm and how they can be minimised.

International Finance:

This module aims to provide students with an understanding of the development and growth of Multinational Corporations (MNC’s), the issues involved in international finance and investment decisions, and the use of global financial markets. It also considers international cash management and risks in international business operations.

Term 4

Pathway Dissertation:

The dissertation is a major piece of work which demonstrates the student’s ability to qualify for the award of MBA. The study must have a business focus and be appropriate to the student’s pathway. No lectures take place during Term 4, however, you will maintain individual contact with your dissertation supervisor.

Entry Requirements In BSc (Hons)

Applicants must have obtained one of the following:
Applicants should be recommended by two responsible persons. They must also have attained one of the following

entry requirements:

• ABE Certificate.
• Two GCE ‘A’ levels together with four GCSEs at Grade C or above, including English language and Maths.
• BTEC National award in relevant subjects.
• Three passes in LCCI Third level in relevant subjects.
• Four passes in RSA examinations at least two of which must be at Stage 111.
• Pitmans Qualifications - Two passes at level 3 in relevant subjects.
• An ‘Access’ Certificate from a UK College of Further Education.
• Any NCVQ approved qualifications at level 3 in relevant subjects.

• Such overseas qualifications, which may be accepted by the Registrar as being equivalent to the above.
• In addition we welcome applications for student membership from candidates who, although not holding a formal entry qualification, have been in appropriate employment for at least two years. A reference letter from employers must accompany all such applications.

In addition, all students applying for this programme mush have obtained IELTS Level 6 or equivalent. Students with a low score in IELTS or another acceptable qualification may seek to attend a 4 weeks English Language Proficiency Programme at LCBMIT but must achieve IELTS 6 or equivalent to be eligible for a direct last year entry to Staffordshire University. Direct Entry into Final Year of the degree programme at Staffordshire University is subject to successful completion of Advanced Diploma in Business Management with LCBMIT and IELTS results at band 6 or equivalent. However, Staffordshire University may wish to interview the student if necessary.

The Bachelor of Science degree programe in Business Management is available at Greenwich School of Management to study as an accelerated degree over two calendar years. The BSc (Hons) Business Management programe is studied in three stages which become increasingly more demanding as students progress. Bachelor of Science (Hons)

The Greenwich School of Management Bachelor of Science Honours degree programmes are ‘accelerated, flexible –start’ university courses commencing in February, June and October each year. These undergraduate programmes take two calendar years to complete and are studied in Greenwich, London.

The assessment of students for the BSc (Hons) courses are made on a continuous basis, taking programme work, group project work and examination results into consideration. Formal examinations take place at the end of every semester at the School. Continuous assessment throughout the degree, emulates the business environment by placing an emphasis on the consistent intensity of work demands.

The programmes ensure that students have a thorough understanding of the nature of business, management and techniques available for effective planning and problem solving. Graduates will therefore be in an excellent position to move quickly to management positions and managerial responsibility. However, the programmes of study are not based solely on the acquisition of business knowledge and techniques, the degrees provide an education that goes beyond vocational training.
